If you need to add rich, cutting-edge organ sounds to your keyboard setup - the XK1c is THE keyboard for you!
Lightweight, portable form factor
The XK-1c has revolutionised the Hammond product range by drastically reducing the size and weight of the instrument and ensuring that it’s now easier than ever to take your Hammond with you wherever you go. Based on the industry standard B-3 model, which consumed a great deal of space on stage and could not be moved particularly easily, the XK-1c weighs just 7.5 kg and is small enough to be taken anywhere and everywhere. The incredible feat of engineering required to shrink the iconic, authentic sound of the B-3 into a small and convenient package, has resulted in an instrument that’s versatile and adaptable, but that doesn’t sacrifice any of the quality of sound or construction found in the original Hammonds.
Inspired by the ultralight stylings of the SK series of keyboards, the XK-1c packs a lot of punch into a surprisingly small package. It benefits from the same ‘Virtual Tonewheel’ technology that was included in the original, reputation-making B-3 Mk2 Console Organ, though it has been upgraded and updated for ease of use. This feature makes use of both the famous ‘Chorus/Vibrato’ and ‘Touch Response Percussion’ settings that made the first Hammonds such popular products. The famous Leslie™ speaker sound is also built into the organ, via a digital recreation of this most popular of musical partnerships.
However, what really helps Hammond distinguish ourselves from the crowd is the extent to which we put the power to customise and shape the keyboard’s sound in your hands. Every aspect of the Hammond sound can be tailored to meet your needs, ensuring that you’re able to innovate as well as recreate the most celebrated organ setups in history. Whether it’s introducing user created patches or altering the tone of one of the preset voices, you can customise your Hammond sound to your heart’s content.
For the organ puristsIf you’re looking for a Hammond organ that has perfected the essentials and doesn’t come overloaded with additional voices and features, the XK-1c may be the perfect model for you. Designed to replicate the iconic Hammond and Leslie cabinet combination, the XK-1c does away with extensive collections of extra voices and focuses on what we’re best known for – the idiosyncratic, rich, and always popular Hammond organ sound. Gone are the grand pianos, clavs, and strings, and what remains is an understated masterpiece.
Variety is the spice of life
The XK-1c includes an enormous range of settings, each of which can be manipulated to achieve the perfect sound. Besides the regular Drawbar Profiles, the voices of two fondly remembered transistor combo organs are stored in the keyboard’s memory, as well as 28 ranks of Classical Pipe Organ sounds. Traditional Hammond tones are stored in the 64-slot factory patch library, while another 64 patches are kept free for user programmed tones. Such variety allows for the creative freedom that’s been at the heart of Hammond instrument manufacturing for many years.
Customise, experiment, and enjoy
Alongside the large number of voices and tones available in the XK-1C, there are many ways to customise your chosen sound. The first tool to mention is the new ‘Mix’ function, which allows you to dictate the balance between direct and chorus signals. The ’Emphasis’ tool combines well with the Mix function, as it sets the parameters for the bandwidth of frequencies that will be chorused. Finally, the ‘Colour’ function can also have a drastic effect on the sound, particularly when creating new Leslie presets. Combined, this impressive collection of customisation tools allows you to create an incredible range of sounds and tones.
Traditional Hammond stylings
At Hammond, we’ve ensured that the XK-1c looks like a traditional Hammond organ, as well as sounding like one. The wood detailing at either end of the design is a classic Hammond touch and lends the keyboard a sense of weight and greater size, without impacting on the keyboard’s actual build specifications. An innovative and intuitive control pad has been added, replacing the larger pads of the past, while the remainder of the simple, yet devastatingly attractive control system fits perfectly around it. The result is a sleek, minimalist look that manages to find the perfect compromise between form and function.
In-built Leslie and the XK-1c
For over 75 years, The Leslie™ and Hammond have gone hand in hand. In fact, it’s hard to think of a time when The Leslie™ sound was not synonymous with Hammond and vice versa. That’s why the XK-1c has an in-built Leslie™ function, which digitally reproduces the stunning effect Leslie™ had on the original Hammond organs. This feature allows you to reproduce classic Leslie™ models, like the 122 and 147, while also tinkering with the sound and developing your own creations.
