Hammond ‘Grooves’ At Music Live Show report Hall 9 at the NEC Birmingham came alive last Friday, Saturday and Sunday (12-14th November) to the cacophony of sound that is a live musical instrument exhibition. Formally just a guitar show but expanded over recent years to take on all forms of music making from pianos to piccolos ,drum kits to decks, this show is the largest UK live music expo. Perhaps I’m biased but this year one sound seemed to rise above the rest and cause the proverbial magnet to iron filings effect on the crowd, a sound that could only emanate from a B3 and its Leslie companion. Malc Deakin on B3p and drummer Chris Durling worked up quite a sweat pushing out virtually continuous sets of cool Hammond grooves throughout the show causing the passing masses to stop in their tracks and amaze at a real moving Leslie and ‘yes you can touch it’ the new B3. The XK3 also created quite a stir, fortunately we had one hooked up to headphones and that was continually being explored. Friday was education day and if ever we needed convincing of a future for Hammond it was here Throughout the day, music students of all ages and musical tastes clambered over the B3 and XK3 eager to know how to get those amazing Hammond sounds. We introduced our Hammond in Education workshop promotion and quite a few schools and colleges showed interest in inviting us along. Lyn on reception was busy all weekend with questions and information and managed to sell quite a few of our special edition ‘get the groove’ tee shirts. Overall it was a great show for Hammond and one we shall no doubt return to next year. .....Barrie
